Karen Endel

Karen Endel is an Assistant Principal in the Van Buren School District. She has worked at all levels throughout the district and central office. She has a Masters of Education in Teaching, Learning and Leadership (2003) and is a National Board Certified Teacher. In addition, she has met the licensure requirements for both Building Level Administrator and Curriculum Program Administrator. She is currently on track to complete the Educational Specialist Program of study in May 2006 from Arkansas Tech University. Her future plans include continuing her education to obtain a doctorate degree in educational leadership and teach at the university level.

Prior to being an Assistant Principal, Karen has spent the past 23 years in education as an instrumental music educator, curriculum design coach, and master teacher leader. She has previously taught adjunct courses for the Center for Leadership and Learning in the MTLL and EDLD programs of study.

Karen has presented at numerous state and national conferences including:

  • Arkansas Association of Middle Level Education (AAMLE) - 2002
  • Arkansas Bandmaster’s Association (ABA) - 2003
  • Arkansas Association of Curriculum and Supervision (AASCD) – 2003, 2004, 2005
  • Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) – 2003 and 2005
  • National Middle School Association (NMSA) – 2003 and 2004.


  • She is a professional development facilitator for the Non-traditional Licensure program (NTL) for Arkansas teachers at the University of Arkansas at Ft. Smith (2003 – present). Karen is certified as a Teacher Advancement Program (TAP) evaluator. She is a trainer of trainers for the AR Classroom Walk-Through (CWT) model.

    Her professional affiliations include the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (AASCD), Arkansas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (AASCD), National Staff Development Council (NSDC), Phi Delta Kappa (PDK), National Middle School Association (NMSA), and Arkansas Association of School Administrators (AASA). Karen is on the advisory board for the Arkansas National Board for Professional Certified Teachers and Arkansans for School Reform. She is an active member of the VBSD teacher evaluation and professional development committees and currently involved in several administrator focus groups and professional book studies.
